The Last Supper Story - Bible
Send Wishes with Message Magic in Your Language. The day before the Passover Feast came. Jesus knew that the time had come for Him to leave this world and go back to the Father. He had loved His disciples during His time on earth, and He loved them to the very end.
Jesus sent Peter and John ahead. He said, 'Go and prepare the Passover meal for us to eat.'
They asked, 'Where do you want us to prepare it?'
Jesus said, 'When you go into the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him. He will show you a large room upstairs. That room is ready for us. Prepare the meal there.'
Peter and John did what Jesus said. They found everything just as He had told them. They prepared the Passover meal.
That evening, Jesus sat down with His twelve disciples. He said to them, 'I have really wanted to eat this Passover meal with you before I suffer. I tell you, I will not eat it again until the kingdom of God comes.'
Then Jesus took a cup of wine. He gave thanks to God. He said, 'Take this and divide it among yourselves. I will not drink wine again until the kingdom of God comes.'
While they were eating, something happened that surprised everyone. Jesus got up from the meal. He took off His outer coat. He wrapped a towel around His waist. Then He poured water into a bowl. He began to wash His disciples' feet. He dried them with the towel that was around His waist.
Jesus came to Simon Peter. Peter said, 'Lord, are you going to wash my feet?'
Jesus answered, 'You don't understand now what I am doing. But later you will understand.'
Peter said, 'No! You will never wash my feet!'
Jesus answered, 'If I don't wash you, you have no part with me.'
Then Peter said, 'Lord, not just my feet! Wash my hands and my head too!'
Jesus said, 'A person who has bathed only needs to wash his feet. The rest of his body is clean. You are clean, but not all of you are.' Jesus knew who was going to betray Him. That is why He said, 'Not all of you are clean.'
After Jesus finished washing their feet, He put on His coat and sat down again. He asked, 'Do you understand what I have done for you? You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord.' You are right, because that is what I am. I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet. So you also should wash one another's feet. I have given you an example. You should do as I have done for you.'
Jesus wanted to teach His disciples to be humble and to serve each other. The King of kings got down on His hands and knees and washed dirty feet. He showed that greatness in God's kingdom comes from serving others.
As they were eating, Jesus took bread. He gave thanks and broke it. He gave it to His disciples and said, 'Take this and eat it. This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.'
Then Jesus took a cup of wine. He gave thanks and gave it to them. He said, 'All of you drink from this cup. This is my blood of the new covenant. It is poured out to forgive the sins of many. I tell you, I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.'
This is why we call it the Last Supper. Jesus knew He was going to die very soon. He wanted to leave His disciples a way to remember Him. When we eat the bread and drink the wine, we remember that Jesus gave His body and His blood for us.
During the meal, Jesus became very sad. He said, 'I tell you the truth. One of you will betray me.'
The disciples were very upset. One by one they asked, 'Lord, surely it is not me, is it?'
Jesus answered, 'The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But how terrible it will be for the one who betrays him! It would be better for him if he had never been born.'
Judas, the one who would betray Jesus, said, 'Surely it is not me, is it, Rabbi?'
Jesus answered, 'Yes, it is you.'
After Judas left, Jesus talked to His disciples. He told them many things to help them after He was gone. He promised to send the Holy Spirit to be with them. He prayed for them and for all people who would believe in Him.
Jesus gave His disciples a new command. He said, 'Love one another. You must love each other as I have loved you. Everyone will know you are my disciples if you love one another.'
The Last Supper was a sad time because Jesus knew He would die soon. But it was also a hopeful time. Jesus promised that He would come back. He promised that His followers would be with Him in heaven forever.
